For this 2022 Honda Civic Si MPG test, our goal is to either debunk the EPA‘s unexpectedly high result or confirm their highway fuel economy findings; a claimed 37 MPG is nuts! Personally, I never would’ve guessed when the new Honda Civic Si was released that the performance version of Honda’s compact sedan gets equal, if not better, highway fuel economy ratings than a budget trim, all for under thirty grand. Not to mention the Civic won our 2022 Car of the Year award. According to the EPA, the Civic Si beats the 2.0-liter manual transmission 5-door by 1 MPG on the highway and other results came to be similar to most other Honda Civic powertrain and bodystyle options. This isn’t a big win, but the fact that it’s even happening is staggering! So what will our test reveal about the Honda Civic Si fuel economy?
A quick shout-out to Honda for fixing their lane-centering technology. While Charlie conducted this Honda Civic Si MPG test, he found the ping-pong effect to be fixed from when he previously drove the car for the 2022 Honda Civic MPG test we performed on the detuned, CVT automatic version of this 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. If you’re interested in the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback MPG then read our test of that too! During our test of this Honda Civic Si fuel economy, Charlie concluded our orange test car to return a result of 39 MPG on the highway! Who would’ve guessed a track-oriented, turbocharged, sport sedan with 200 horsepower and five seats could achieve something like that?
This Honda Civic Si gas mileage result is a perfect answer from Honda for enthusiasts looking for a way to navigate rising gas prices and still have fun. If you were to road trip this sports sedan then you can expect to travel 480 miles before the range computer hits zero. Once again, the new Honda Civic fleet surprised us with this overachieving discovery of the Honda Civic Si MPG.

How We Test the Honda Civic Si Gas Mileage:
This Daily Motor 2022 Honda Civic Si MPG test consists of over 100 miles of consistent highway driving. We fill the Honda Civic Si fuel economy test car with gasoline using the “three-click method,” meaning running the gas pump on high flow until it clicks off, waiting ten seconds, running low flow until it clicks off again, waiting another ten seconds, then running low flow one very last time. The lowest-octane gasoline accepted by the vehicle’s manufacturer is used. We then drive about fifty miles on public highway in one direction and then back in the opposite direction, attempting not to draft or drive aggressively. We set the cruise control at GPS-indicated 72 mph in an attempt to achieve a moving average speed of 70 mph over the entire test. Upon return to the gas station, we refill at the same fuel pump as the initial fill using the same fueling method. Miles per gallon is determined by dividing total miles traveled by fuel used. In cases where our observed figure differs greatly from the vehicle’s indicated figure and/or EPA’s estimate, we may recommend a number in between or plan to retest the vehicle.
